PURmate is proud to announce the start of an important partnership with Northern Light Composites.
You may be wondering who this company is, and what does this company do?
Northern Light Composites is a brand of the Northern Light Srl company.
Northern Light Srl, is a startup made up of young people with a strong experience in boating and sustainable materials.
Thanks to natural fibers and eco-sustainable resins, the team’s goal is to revolutionize the yachting sector with technological innovations, reuse of raw materials and reduction of waste.
And PURmate, champions of technological innovations, the reduction of consumption and waste, and champions of eco-sustainability, could not leave out this opportunity for collaboration.
But let’s get to know the goal of nlcomp better.
“A new Circular Yacht Economy”
The technology underlying the nlcomp project aims to solve one of the major problems in the nautical sector; fiberglass boats abandoned at the end of their lives lying in construction sites, in ports or in the countryside. The concept is to create a brand new circular economy in this sector.
How do you get all this?
“Sustainable technology”
The team decides to replace the composite materials commonly used for yacht construction, in favor of new eco-sustainable technologies. Instead of glass fibers, which are not reusable or recyclable once in the resin, the kids decide to use bio-based fibers to reduce their carbon footprint. Furthermore, to obtain a recyclable composite they tested a new resin that allows it to separate from the fibers and reuse the polymer with normal industrial processes.
What can I say, aren’t they brilliant? But their skill does not end there; the team wants to abandon the classic traditional solvents used in the lamination of composites, and they contact us to replace the classic acetone with products with a low environmental impact and less harmful to the operator.
This is the beginning of the collaboration between nlcomp and PURmate: it goes without saying that our products have met the expectations of the team’s operators, but the most important thing is that an important synergy has been formed that will lead the two companies to proceed hand in hand. towards an increasingly eco-sustainable future.
In the video below, nlcomp demonstrates how their composite based on natural fibers and thermoplastic resin is recyclable.
In the next news, we will introduce you to the nlcomp team and show their progress in building boats.
Stay tuned!
